Few people know that New Zealand produces excellent black truffles (tuber melanosporum), the equal of their famous siblings from Europe. To help celebrate the current season, we are hosting a special dinner on 17 September 2016 that will feature this extravagant treat in all three courses of the meal, which will also be accompanied by a flight of paired wines. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy this fragrant tuber, and to make the occasion even more special we are offering a two-night package for guests wishing to take part. Arrive on Friday to a welcome glass of Waitaki wine and a selection of canapés before venturing out for dinner at a restaurant of your choice in Oamaru, then after breakfast on Saturday morning explore all that our beautiful corner of New Zealand has to offer before returning to participate in our truffle feast. Then, on Sunday morning, enjoy one more breakfast before heading home or to your next destination, but not before visiting Oamaru’s farmers market. The special rate for this package is $1500 in one of our Annex Rooms (Nest, Garden or Park), or $1350 in one of our Lodge Rooms (Elizabeth or Victoria).
