Earthquake Relief Donation

Thanks to all our friends and visitors who generously contributed to our Gingerbread collection in support of the Christchurch Mayoral Relief Fund, we have collected $220 from all over the world from people who wanted to do their part to help the reconstruction of the stricken city of Christchurch. We have matched your donations with a further $110 donation of our own, and have sent a cheque to the Fund today. Thank you all for your donations, and we hope that before too long we'll all be able to visit the renewed Christ Church Cathedral, in whatever form it should take!

Pen-y-bryn Lodge "A Boutique Dream"

After spending two nights at Pen-y-bryn and enjoying the personal attention and cuisine on offer, journalst Chloe Johnson of the New Zealand Herald on Sunday proclaimed Pen-y-bryn and Oamaru one of New Zealand's best-kept secrets. Well, the secret is now out, as her article appeared in this past weekend's paper. Among the things that Chloe noted in particular was the variety and quality of our breakfast, the historic nature of our building, and of course the opportunity to get to know her hosts a bit better! Celebrity Chef Series Inaugurated

Masterchef NZ runner-up and fan favourite Jax Hamilton wowed a small group of 30 guests with her wit, her charm and of course her food at a fun-filled evening in Pen-y-bryn's ornate dining room yesterday. The menu featured some of Jax's most popular dishes from her time on Masterchef, included prawn-and-pumpkin ravioli and Lean Meats/Atkins Ranch lamb shanks in a red wine and balsamic reduction, and Jax demonstrated the pasta-making process with audience assistance.

Pen-y-bryn Chef/Owner named Chancelier of NZ Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

At a gala "intronisation" in Wellington, Pen-y-bryn chef/owner James Glucksman was named Chancelier (equivalent of Secretary) of the New Zealand branch of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. The Chaîne is a Paris-based gourmet society, founded in 1950, that strives to promote the art of the table by uniting professional chefs and hoteliers with non-professionals who have an abiding interest in fine food and wine. Pen-y-bryn is honoured to be one of a very small group of Chaîne restaurant/hotels in New Zealand, but hopes that this number will soon grow. NZ Trio Perform at Pen-y-bryn

Taking advantage of the wonderful acoustics of Pen-y-bryn's large sitting room, the internationally acclaimed NZ Trio performed a selection of works by Brahms, Haydn and contemporary Kiwi and American composers for a small group of music-lovers who also enjoyed the lodge's  canapés and Ostler wines. Pen-y-bryn's Gingerbread House Featured in Otago Daily Times

The Otago Daily Times today had a cover story about Pen-y-bryn's holiday gingerbread house, which is a replica of the 1889 mansion itself. There is even a side feature about previous gingerbread houses that James and James have made in earlier years. You can read the article here.
